2015 International Workshop on Typhoon and Flood (IWTF) – APEC Experience Sharing on Hazardous Weather Events and Risk Management

Location :B1, No. 85, Sec. 4, Roosevelt Road, Taipei City, Taiwan (GIS NTU Convention Center)
Date:May 27-29, 2015

Severe weather events (e.g. typhoons, storms and heavy rain) pose enormous threats to societies in the APEC region. Therefore, the advanced technology of typhoon forecasting and hydrological applications have been the major concern of APEC members. Furthermore, the social implications of the technology development also have huge impacts on national, regional and global scales.
Since the establishment of APEC Research Center for Typhoon and Society (ACTS) on 22 November, 2010 in Taipei, the Center has been organizing training workshops to enhance the Member Economies on capacity of managing typhoon and heavy rain events.
The aims of the 2015 International Workshop on Typhoon and Flood – APEC Experience Sharing on Hazardous Weather Events and Risk Management would be subject to following:
1.    To demonstrate recent advancements in severe weather research, monitoring, and forecast in Chinese Taipei and other member economies
2.    To facilitate exchange of information among APEC member economies in hazardous weather events and risk management
3.    To exchange knowledge and experience in the fields of flood forecasting and hazard management
4.  To share experiences of preparedness, post-disaster responses, as well as social impacts for recent typhoon events among APEC Member Economies
5.  To share the knowledge about risk assessment for typhoon events and discuss the feasibility of introducing risk management tools to enhance the whole society’s resilience
Beside inviting international and domestic scholars and government officials to share their valuable research result and experience, the 2015 IWTF also comes along with a Student Poster Competition.
For the workshop, the targeted participants are: undergraduate and graduate students in the fields related to atmospheric sciences, hydraulic engineering, and social sciences.
